Kewayne Jones hit early taking a cross from Joey Barton and beat Mark Stetch to give Stoke an early lead within the first five minutes of the match.
The Hammers held after, but failed to score a goal with several chances clearing the crossbar. With the match being a stalemate into the half West Ham was down 1-0.
Much of the same continued after Howard Webb blew the whistle to start the second half. Both sides went back and forth with possession creating few chances.
It wasn't until good ol' Scott Parker was able to equalize the match in the 84th minute by beating Asmie Begovic, pushing the match into extra time.
The Irons Manuel Da Costa drove in another goal in the extra time and newboy Victor Obinna sent the match out of reach for the Potters by slotting in another in the 118th minute.
West Ham awaits who they will face in the quarter final and will play at Arsenal this weekend.
